If like me your fed up of reading in landscape plans and specifications that the tree pits in soft landscaped areas should be up to a metre deep, which is against current best practice as demonstrated by Ed Gillman, then please free to use the attached graphic to hammer home the point that theres no need to dig a hole that reaches to the centre of the earth and its better to have a wider than deep hole for your planted stick, sorry tree. Using graphics is better than a thousand words in my opinion. So the next time a tree pit specification, which is about as current as painting wounds on trees used to be, comes across your desk, please feel free to use my graphic. Its my version of Ed Gillman’s tree pit diagram, but with added soil baffle for making watering easier.
